When completed, TruckCity will take the traffic of 4,000 trailers daily and provide auxiliary services for the trailers and their cargo. There is currently no operational road to the site. The existing highway, Eleko-Folu Road, stops 12km from the site. The TruckCity Site inspection with Lagos State Government Officials was to validate the proposed road, bridges and culvert construction for unhindered access to the facility.
The Zedx Global team was at Ode-Omi, Ibeju-Lekki, with officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Works, Office of the Surveyor General, Lagos State and TruckCity Project Managers and Engineering Consultants, ARUP. The inspection began from the Dangote Refinery on Eleko-Folu Road to the end of the existing road, about 4km after La Campaign Tropicana. The two key objectives of the assessment were for the Lagos State Government officials to inspect the project site and familiarise themselves with its environs and the state of the access road.
The inspection team inspected the existing bridges and culverts en route to the TruckCity project site. The government officials also sought to understand the possible route for the access road to the site. The state of the existing road, bridges, and culverts was critically evaluated to ascertain if they could carry the projected traffic. The new road to be constructed should fit into the Lagos State Government’s overall development plans for the Ibeju-Lekki. Zedx Global would build the road to the site under an agreement with the Lagos State Government and ensure that the existing bridges are adequate.
As a result of the inspection, the Zedx Global team agreed with the Lagos State Government officials that a bridge would replace the third and fourth culverts as it has historically been failing. Engr. Oyenuga, Director (Civil), Ministry of Works, who was involved in the Lagos State Government’s construction of the Eleko-Folu Road in 1989, pointed out that Bridge 2 did not initially exist. Originally, it was two culverts, just like Culverts Three and Four. However, as they continued to fail, it was replaced by a bridge. This explains why Julius Berger did the other bridges and the road, while that Bridge 3 was done by a Chinese company much later.
Zedx Global would build the road to the site under an agreement with the Lagos State Government and ensure that the existing bridges are adequate.
